About Marlene's Tea & Cakes
Located at 14677 Via Bettona, San Diego, CA 92127, Marlene's Tea & Cakes operates as a tea house serving San Diego in California. This page gathers the practical details people usually look for before visiting: where it is, how to reach it, when it opens and how customers rate it.
Hours at these spots often run into the evening, later than a typical coffee shop, and many stay open on weekends when demand is highest in San Diego. Seasonal and limited-time drink or dessert flavors are common, so a shop's current menu can differ from what is posted online; checking recent photos or calling ahead helps. Some locations in California are dessert-only with no seating, meant for takeout, while others have cafe-style seating for staying a while. Straws for bubble tea are typically wide to accommodate the toppings, and are provided automatically unless you ask for a regular one. Loyalty apps and stamp cards are common at chain locations, and ordering ahead through an app can shorten a wait considerably at busy locations during peak after-school and after-dinner hours.
The business lists hours on 5 days of the week. On most of those days it is open 10 amβ5 pm. It is closed on Monday, Tuesday. As with most places, expect changes around holidays; the phone number below is the fastest way to confirm. The listed phone number is (858) 756-4320. Many businesses also reply to text messages on the same number if it is a cell phone. Its website is marlenesteaandcakes.com, where you may find menus, price lists or booking options.
Customers rate it 4.5 out of 5 on Google across 191 reviews, placing it among the better-regarded tea houses in San Diego.
San Diego is in California, on the West Coast, where the climate ranges from foggy coast to hot inland valleys, wildfire season can affect air quality in late summer, and traffic is the main thing to plan around. US addresses list the street number and name, then the city, state abbreviation and ZIP code, and San Diego follows the same pattern; a suite or apartment number such as Ste 200 refers to a unit inside the building. The map link on this page shows the exact spot.

Great place for a girls tea/brunch. Itβs a small and cozy spot, the sandwiches and desserts are great! Teas are amazing, they have large selection of non caffeinated options as well! Overall a great experience

We have had high tea at the Grand Del Mar, the Westgate Hotel the Saint Regis before it changed hands and The Ritz Carlton, but MARLENEβs TEA and CAKES has been the best High Tea we have had ! Started with soup it was hot and delicious, then the sandwiches were fresh and tasty., the scones were definitely the best I have had the pastries were excellent. We enjoyed all of it and still had a lot to take home. We will be returning here to enjoy again soon. Thank You Marlene and your attentive staff !

My first afternoon tea experience for my birthday and it was lovely! The food, drinks, atmosphere, and service were all amazing and worth it. Servers are very attentative and sweet. I did the outdoor seating and watching the birds around the feeders was a nice touch. If you are visiting on a chilly day like me, don't worry as they provide heaters around your tables to warm you up. If you are also wondering if the food will fill you up I guarantee it will (my partner and I came on an empty stomach and are big back certified and left stuffed haha). Will come again on another special occasion!

I took my mother here for her birthday. The aesthetic is perfectly her style π₯° This is High Tea, with two seatings, 11:00 and 2:00 for a flat fee. Included is unlimited tea, a soup and your three-tier service of tea sandwiches, mini puff pastries, an apple cinnamon scone (with clotted cream), a few pieces of fruit, and mini desserts. The scone was moist, flaky, and out of this world good! I honestly didnβt know they could be that good π The service is wonderful! They are all very attentive, polite and accommodating. The food is fresh and full of love & care. I would definitely come back for a girlie treat π (The price makes it more of a treat)

This was a wonderful tea room. It was beautiful and elegant from the moment you walked in. Each place setting was daintily set with fine China. The tea selection was wonderful. I recommend the Paris or the violet macaroon teas. The treat tower was gorgeous and set with the most delicious sandwiches and warm bites, like their amazing mini beef wellingtonβs and chicken pot pies, and scrumptious quiche. I have been to many tea services all over the world and tested many scones. That strawberry white chocolate scone was the best I have ever had. It was perfection in a bite. The desserts were super decadent and rich, just the right topper to the perfect afternoon. To top it all off Marlene and Alma were so sweet and friendly. I am a lady of size and it was very comfortable. My friend uses a wheelchair and they were so helpful and accommodating to her as well. I highly recommend this beautiful spot for a wonderful afternoon lunch or special occasion.
